Netdle
What is Netdle?
Netdle is a browser-based puzzle that asks you to guess a mystery country from a stylized connection graph. Each country appears as a circle whose color, size, and label encode clues such as coastal/landlocked status, population, land area, and first letter. The site also includes movie-themed easy and hard modes.
How to play Netdle
In Countries mode, players infer the hidden country by studying the graph's nodes and edges. Orange circles mark landlocked countries, teal circles mark coastal countries, lines represent borders (or the three closest countries for islands), and circle size and color intensity reflect land area and population. Make a guess based on those visual clues; full instructions are described as coming soon.
Tips & strategy
- Look at whether the node is orange (landlocked) or teal (coastal) first—it narrows down the possibilities quickly.
- Read the letter on the node and compare its size to other nodes to estimate land area.
- Few or unusual connections can hint at an island country, especially if the links go across water.
- Remember that island connections are based on capital-to-capital distances and may include manual adjustments.
- In movie modes, keep in mind the data is drawn from IMDb's Top 10,000 Movies list, not all films ever made.
Frequently asked questions
Is Netdle free?
Yes, it appears to be a free hobby project; there is no mention of pricing or premium plans on the page.
How are country connections determined?
Countries with land borders are connected by those borders. Island countries without land borders are linked to their three closest countries based on capital-to-capital distances, with some manually added connections such as India–Sri Lanka.
Where does the data come from?
Country borders come from GeoDataSource.com, population and area from Wikipedia, distances from distance-between-countries.com, and movie data from IMDb's Top 10,000 Movies list via Kaggle.
How often is the game updated?
The site includes a Recent Fixes log showing regular updates, but no fixed daily schedule is specified.
Can I report a bug or make a suggestion?
Yes, there is a Feedback / Report Bug form on the site. The author asks for kindness because it is a hobby project.
