TempusGuessr - Timeline
What is TempusGuessr - Timeline?
TempusGuessr - Timeline is a daily chronological ordering puzzle built around a simple premise: place historical events, births, and inventions in the correct order on a timeline.

This is a perfect daily brain-teaser for your commute—you only need to know what came before what, and the half-points for being close make it forgiving enough for a quick break.

The scoring system is admirably logical—full points for the right gap, half for adjacent—but the real test of skill is whether you can deduce order from context when the years are hidden, and the thre

With the archive letting you replay every missed challenge and the challenge-a-friend link for score-battles, this is a completionist's dream—time to grind that 500-point streak.
How to play TempusGuessr - Timeline
Each day presents seven cards covering events, births of well-known people, and inventions from 1500 to the present. The first card is placed on the line with its year visible, serving as a reference point. The remaining six cards arrive one at a time without their years; players tap the spot on the line where each belongs—before, between, or after the cards already placed. After every placement, the true year is revealed and the card moves to its correct position, so the timeline fills in regardless of whether the guess was right.
Tips & strategy
- You don't need to know exact years—only relative order matters. Card context (country, field, people involved) often narrows things down.
- Cards are guaranteed to have years at least three years apart, which removes near-tie ambiguity.
- If two cards share the same year, any gap next to them counts as correct.
Frequently asked questions
How does scoring work?
There are six placements worth up to 500 points total. The first four are worth 80 points each and the last two are worth 90, since a fuller line has more gaps to choose from. The correct gap earns full points; missing by one gap earns half; missing by two or more earns nothing.
Where does the content come from?
Cards are pulled from Wikidata, the collaborative database behind Wikipedia. A script selects well-known events, people, and inventions, and a sample is reviewed by hand before going into the game. Each card links to its source when the year is revealed.
