Icepicks (icepicks.io) is a daily trivia game built around a simple, tense setup: each puzzle has nine answers, but only six are correct. The other three are traps. Your job is to pick the six correct answers to save penguins — every wrong pick feeds a seal, and three seals end the puzzle.
How the 6-right / 3-wrong format works
Every day, three new Icepicks puzzles drop. Each puzzle gives you a category, like “Pick the answers that are Mammals — Living or extinct.” Underneath are nine answer tiles.
Here’s the loop:
- A correct pick saves a penguin.
- A wrong pick feeds a seal.
- The board tracks “Penguins: 6 left” and “Seals: 0 of 3.”
- When you hit 3 seals, the puzzle ends.
So you can afford at most two wrong picks. To finish, you need to save all six penguins before that third seal shows up.
Basic picking strategy for beginners
If you’re new to Icepicks, start with a simple approach rather than guessing your way through the board.
- Read the prompt carefully. Notice every detail in the category.
- Scan all nine answers before making your first pick.
- Pick the answers you’re most confident about first. This saves penguins and narrows your options.
- For the remaining slots, try to identify the three wrong answers instead of searching for the six right ones.
- Check the seal counter after every pick. If you already have two seals, your next guess may be your last.
- Re-read the prompt before committing to the final few tiles.
This order helps you avoid wasting early mistakes on tiles you weren’t sure about anyway.
How to dodge the three trap answers
The wrong answers in Icepicks are called traps because they’re designed to feel like they fit. They might be real facts, real names, or famous things that simply don’t match the exact category.
That’s why it helps to think in reverse. Since there are exactly three wrong answers, finding one obvious trap can break open the whole board. Ask yourself: “Which three answers definitely do not belong?”
If you can rule out three tiles, the remaining six should be your answers.
On desktop, keys 1–9 pick tiles in a number-pad layout, and Enter goes to the next puzzle. It’s a handy shortcut once you’re comfortable with the board.
What happens when you pick: quick reference
| Pick | Result |
|---|---|
| Correct answer | A penguin is saved; penguins left decreases. |
| Wrong answer | A seal is fed; the seal counter moves up. |
| Third wrong answer | The puzzle ends. |
The last row is the one to remember: a wrong pick isn’t just a miss — it’s one step closer to losing the whole puzzle.
Quick FAQ
Can I make mistakes and still finish? Yes. You can make one or two wrong picks and still save all six penguins, as long as you finish before the third seal appears.
Do archive puzzles keep my streak going? No. Streaks count days you finished on the day itself. Archive puzzles add to your stats and your colony, but they don’t count toward the streak.
What’s the point of saving penguins? Every penguin you save joins your colony permanently. Seals can’t touch them after that, so your daily picks build a lasting collection.
