What is Redactle?

Redactle hands you a Wikipedia article with almost every word blacked out, and challenges you to work out what it's about. It's part word game, part detective work.

How to play Redactle

Guess words to reveal every instance of them in the redacted article. Function words fill in structure while topic words crack the subject open; the goal is to name the article's title in as few guesses as possible.

Tips & strategy

• Start with high-frequency words (the, of, was) to expose the sentence skeleton.
• Reveal proper-noun candidates once the topic area becomes clear.
• Section headings and the first sentence carry the most diagnostic value.
