Name a place. The more obscure your answer, the deeper your worm digs.
Peak or Deep
What is Peak or Deep?
Peak or Deep is a daily elevation quiz from Geography Games. Instead of typing a number, you drag each place up or down a vertical height gauge to estimate its elevation, then lock in your guess. The real height then rises from the bottom of the gauge and stops at its true position, showing how far off you were.
How to play Peak or Deep
Each round names a real place — a mountain, city, lake, or something below sea level — and places it in the middle of a height gauge. Drag it up or down to where you think it sits, then press Lock in. The gauge includes reference markers to help: the Eiffel Tower at 330 metres, Everest at 8,849 metres, and the Titanic wreck at 3,800 metres below sea level. A map pin shows the place's location, which can help — a city in the Andes and a city on the Dutch coast won't sit at the same height. Arrow buttons and arrow keys move the guess one metre or one foot at a time, and holding a button speeds i

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know exact elevations to play?
No. The gauge is marked with familiar reference points — the Eiffel Tower, Everest, and the Titanic wreck — and the map pin gives geographic context, so you can make a reasonable guess without memorising numbers.
How does scoring work?
Each round is worth up to 1,000 points based on how close your guess is to the true elevation. The gauge is stretched at the low end, so being 100 metres off near sea level costs about as much as being a few hundred metres off near the top of a big mountain.
What's the difference between daily and unlimited mode?
The daily game has three rounds that are the same for everyone and reset at midnight UTC. Unlimited mode lets you keep playing as long as you like, with filters for mountains, cities, lakes, and the deep.
