Metazooa is a daily animal guessing game built on the tree of life: each guess tells you how closely related your animal is to the mystery creature.

How to play Metazooa

Guess any animal; the game shows your taxonomic distance — same genus, family, order, class, and so on. Climb the branches toward the target across up to twenty guesses.

Tips & strategy

• Open with a wide-ranging guess (a mammal, a bird) to find the right class.
• Each 'closest rank' result tells you which branch to explore next.
• Think taxonomy, not appearance — a whale is closer to a hippo than a fish.
