What is Mathler?

Mathler flips Nerdle around: you're given the target number and must find the hidden equation that equals it within six guesses.

How to play Mathler

Each puzzle states a target (say, 36). Guess equations that evaluate to exactly that number; tiles tell you which digits and operators are correctly placed. Commutative answers are accepted as equivalent.

Tips & strategy

• Start from the target and work backwards to candidate factorings.
• Lock the operators first — they constrain the digits hard.
• Don't fear long shots; any equation hitting the target gives useful colour.
