Higher or Lager
What is Higher or Lager?
Higher or Lager is a free daily browser game that turns British pub prices into a guessing challenge. Each day it compares a pint at one Wetherspoons pub with a pint at another, asking whether the second price is higher or lower. It is an unofficial fan project and is not affiliated with J D Wetherspoon.

Ten rounds of pub price data is exactly my kind of quiz—finally a game where the stats do the talking.

A perfect little daily distraction for the commute—just guess higher or lager and get on with your day.
How to play Higher or Lager
At the start of each round you see a benchmark price for one pint at a named Wetherspoons. The game then reveals a second pub and pint, and you choose HIGHER or LAGER (meaning lower) before the actual price is shown. A daily game has 10 rounds, and everyone gets the same challenge that day.
Tips & strategy
- Pay attention to the pub names: Wetherspoons prices can vary between city-centre and suburban branches, so location is a useful clue.
- Equal-price pairs are excluded, so you never need to worry about the two prices being exactly the same.
- Use each revealed price to calibrate your guesses in later rounds, especially when the next comparison seems similar.
- When unsure, think about the type of pint and how common it is; familiar brands and styles often have different price ranges than less common ones.
- Treat the listed prices as approximate, since the beta uses menu data that is described as likely pint sizes and not independently verified.
