What is Shikaku?

Shikaku is a classic Japanese logic puzzle where you divide a grid into rectangles, each containing exactly one number equal to its area.

How to play Shikaku

Draw rectangles so that every numbered cell sits in a region whose area matches that number, and every cell belongs to exactly one rectangle. It's pure deductive partitioning.

Tips & strategy

• Start with numbers that have only one possible rectangle shape.
• Edges and corners constrain rectangles strongly — use them.
• When two regions compete for a cell, one will usually be forced.
