Four new mystery charts every day, with the satisfaction of figuring out what the data represents from clues alone.
Oceanclade
What is Oceanclade?
Oceanclade is a daily marine tree-of-life puzzle. A mystery sea creature is hidden somewhere in the taxonomy of marine animals, and your task is to identify it by comparing guesses against the tree of life.

Perfect little brain warm-up for a coffee break — you can dip in, make a guess, and still feel clever when the cladogram blooms.

Hints costing a guess is a sharp trade-off, and Hard mode's hidden closeness meter makes the real test reading the tree, not luck.

Lovely touch that the Waters hint becomes Range for regional play — suddenly it's a mini biogeography lesson as much as a taxonomy game.

It's like Shazam for the tree of life — one guess drops the needle on the shared branch, and the daily reveal hooks you like a chorus you can't place.
How to play Oceanclade
Name any animal from the list, and Oceanclade shows the most specific taxonomic group your guess shares with the mystery creature. Each guess grows the cladogram and fills in the rank checklist from phylum down to species. You can also spend hints about habitat, depth, diet, and size, at a cost of one guess each.
Tips & strategy
- Start with a common, widely known marine animal like a fish or whale to quickly reveal a broad phylum or class.
- Check the “What defines…” text after each guess; it explains the traits of the shared group and can help you narrow the next guess.
- Use the “Waters” or “Range” hint when you want to narrow down where the animal lives, but remember each hint costs a guess.
- On Hard mode, the closeness meter is hidden, so rely on the group names in the cladogram to judge how close you are.
- Try branch colors as a quick visual cue: they show each animal's phylum while you explore the cladogram.
