What Is FlippinX?
FlippinX is a free word puzzle “with a twist.” Instead of solving one grid, you get two crossword-style grids: Grid A and Grid B. The goal is simple to understand: swap letters between the two grids until all 12 words are valid.
Here’s the catch: every swap is a trade. When you move a letter into Grid A, you’re moving another letter out to Grid B. That means a swap can fix one grid while accidentally breaking something in the other. Learning to read that trade-off is the core of the game.
The Basic Goal
You are not trying to build one long word. You are trying to make two entire grids work at the same time. Across Grid A and Grid B, there are 12 words that need to be valid. The game doesn’t reveal the answer list at the start; you have to figure out where each letter belongs.
A valid word doesn’t need to be fancy. It needs to be a real word that fits correctly in its crossword-style position. After you solve, the game shows your winning words, and you can tap a word to look it up on Wiktionary.
How the Two-Grid Swap Works
The key mechanic is swapping letters between the grids, not just rearranging inside one grid.
Imagine Grid A has the word “BRAT” but it should be “BRAN.” Somewhere in Grid B, there’s probably an N sitting in the wrong word. If you swap that N with the T from Grid A, Grid A improves. But Grid B now has a T where the N used to be, so you’ll need to keep fixing from there.
That back-and-forth tension is why FlippinX is trickier than it first looks. Every move affects both sides, so the best swaps are the ones where both grids get closer to valid.
Beginner tip: Before making a swap, glance at both words involved. Ask yourself: “If this letter leaves, does that word completely break?” Sometimes a smaller temporary break is worth it, but you want to avoid making a mess you can’t undo.
